Project Manager II

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the coordination and completion of projects. Working in concert with Sales, Design Engineering and the Manufacturing teams is essential to managing the expectations of the customer in connection with the internal and external capabilities, resource availability and execution of the projects. Project Manager must have ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while meeting the expected gross margins as well as customer’s delivery schedule. The Project Manager must be able to identify constraints and offer constructive resolution to mitigate the risk of not achieving on time delivery. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. At this level, it is expected that the Project Manager would be gaining the experience and judgment to plan and apply theory with the understanding of the professional field to accomplish goals. Analyze problems/issues of diverse scope and completes substantive assignments of moderate scope and complexity. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. The Project Manager must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships through the manufacturing and sales cycle.

Essential Functions:
Plan the Project:
• With supportive oversight, define the scope of the project in collaboration with the commercial group, engineering team and at times senior management
• Under direct supervision, create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project
• Work with internal stakeholders (Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing) to determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc) required to complete the project
• Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities
• Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required
Implement the Project:
• Execute the project according to the project plan
• Document project activities and maintain proper records
• Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured
• Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
• Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project
• Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards
Control the Project:
• Write reports on the project for internal stakeholders and management
• Communicate with customers as outlined in the customer terms and conditions
• Monitor all budgeted project expenditures
• Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to Senior Management on a regular basis
• Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures
• Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date
• Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for funders as outlined in funding agreements
Evaluate the Project:
• Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality
• Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase through a final written report
• Utilizing a “Close Out” at the end of the project, develop and manage a list of action items from the close out meeting in order to correct any shortcomings from that meeting

Technical Competencies:
• Proven working experience in some type of project management in the industrial sector

Senior Controls Engineer

Work involves the engineering and design for combustion control systems. The systems are custom designed for use with BLOOM equipment. Work involves knowledge of electrical circuits, loop control, and standard practice for instrumentation and heavy industrial controls. This position reports to the Manager of Controls Engineering.

- Knowledge of electrical elementary, P&ID, piping, power distribution and control drawings
- PLC and HMI programming experience is required
- Industrial Instrumentation practice and design experience is required
- Ability to comprehend equipment literature from a variety of manufacturers
- Experience with NEC and NFPA codes is desired
- Knowledge of system requirements of hazardous classified areas is desired
- This position requires an estimated 20-30% travel
- Must meet the physical requirements of the position with reasonable accommodations if necessary
- Light to medium physical demands – exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently
- Some days require work standing in an industrial plant for the majority of the work day (kneeling, climbing, crouching, etc. are regular activities while in industrial plants)

Project Work:
Design and process orders for control systems may include:
- Develop schematics, panel layouts, flow charts, P&ID and other drawings
- Program PLC and HMI software for combustion systems
- Procure equipment and assemblies (panels) to meet necessary ship dates
- Review piping and proposed controls equipment to ensure system is workable and safe
- Generate custom control solutions with hardware and software
- Generate Bills of Material, instructions, and operating manuals
- Generate Function Design Specifications
- Track information for internal processing and Accounting
- Coordinate assembly at outside facilities
- Conduct panel checkouts and FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing)
- Interpret safety codes to ensure safe operation of combustion systems
- Check drawings and engineering documents for technical correctness
- Write functional description of control equipment
- Coordinate assembly of manuals for automation
- Generate control system estimates and interact with Sales and customers to develop orders
- Sales support - meet with customer to determine optimum design requirements

Startup and Commissioning Work:
- On-site travel support and phone/email support for customers
- Support installations in progress and of existing systems – includes wiring, setup of devices including HART protocol, site programming changes, and training
- Must have knowledge of contractor practice and standard industrial construction
- Field test and commission control equipment
- Service any trouble calls or equipment malfunction
- Willingness to submit to on-site, customer-required background checks and drug and alcohol tests

Equipment and Software Knowledge:
- Experience with RSLogix software for AB ControlLogix PLC platform required
- Experience with Windows OS, MS Office (especially Excel), and Ethernet communications is required
- Familiarity with Siemens, GE, and Modicon PLC software is desired
- Must be familiar with HMI programming such as RSView (AB PanelView), PanelMate, and Red Lion
- Experience with SCADA software such as Wonderware, Intellution, and LabView is desired
- Programming experience must include loop control and sequencing
- Programming experience in Visual Basic or C is desired
- Experience with combustion safety circuits and MCC circuits is desired
- Experience with use of VFDs is desired
- Basic understanding of DCS functions

Field Service Technician / Field Service Engineer

- Complete understanding of the combustion and industrial heating processes to the extent that a root cause can be determined for failed systems
- Ability to act as a project manager in the demolition, construction and start-up of a new or retrofit industrial heating application
- Specific knowledge of the combustion of various combustion fuels such as natural gas, propane, oil, blast furnace gas, and coke oven gas
- Ability to read and utilize CAD to manipulate both mechanical and electrical drawings
- Ability to algebraically solve engineering equations used in combustion and industry
- Ability to calibrate, use, extract and analyze data from various instruments used to analyze combustion efficiency and thermal efficiency of industrial heating processes.
- Ability to independently use electronic measuring equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers and interpret the data being produced by these devices.
- Knowledge of PID control loops and how these are used to control industrial heating processes.
- Basic understanding of the use, programming and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controller’s (PLC’s) and Distributive Control Systems (DCS)
- General knowledge of safety requirements in an industrial environment
- Ability to utilize standard MS Office package, including Word and Excel
- Ability to travel independently within North and South America required. Must be open to travel word-wide.

- Independently troubleshoot and determine a root cause analysis for failed industrial heating systems
- Review programming in PID loops in single and multi-loop controllers
- Interface with industrial heating equipment operators, engineers and managers
- Interact with other Service Technicians & Corporate managers to improve the corporate Service offering
- Keep a vehicle maintained, properly registered and insured so that they can enter into an industrial facility
- Act in a manner that would support the professionalism of Bloom Engineering Company, Inc.
